Hi ladies, for this make up 101, we will discuss how to choose the right lip color. This will help you pick the right lipstick color which will match your skin color and if it will look natural when you put it on.

First, determine your skin color and your undertones. How to do this you say? In order to determine your skin undertone, examine your skin in natural lighting (day light) , avoid examining it in artificial lighting as this may cast a different color and change how your skin undertone looks like.So under natural lighting (near a window usually) and you find that your skin seems to have a pinkish, bluish or maybe greenish tint, you are probably cool toned. And if you tend to see yellow (golden), orange (bronze) or olive color then you are probably warm toned. Although there are some people who tend to have flesh or beige tones and if you think you have that tone then you are considered to have a neutral tone. Another technique which might be easier for you is to look at your inner arm and look at the visible veins, if they are green then you have a warm undertone and if it is blue then you are cool toned.

If you have a warm undertone then opt for lip colors which are coral or have an orange base.
If you have a cool undertone then go for lip colors which are blue based.

Second the lip color that you choose should also match your lifestyle or your personality. If you don't tend to wear a lot of make up and just choose to look natural choose lip colors which are nude or neutrals. But if you prefer to draw attention to your lips then choose bold colors so that your lips will pop.'

Third, try to use lighter shades of lip color in the daytime and use darker shades at night.

Fourth, consider your eye make up when choosing your lip color. Bold, mesmerizing, smokey eyes work best with light neutral lip colors. While light eye make up will complement with deeply colored bold lip colors.

Fifth, if you are going to test lip colors do not swatch it on the back of your hand, but rather in your inner arm near the wrist or on your finger tips as these areas will most likely resemble the natural color of your lips.
